New BlackBerry tool to support iPhone and Android
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — As a growing number of people bring their iPhones, iPads and Android devices to work, BlackBerry maker Research In Motion wants to make sure it still has a place in the office technology landscape.
That’s why RIM (RIMM) this week unveiled a new experimental product that will support iPhone and Android devices. The software, aimed at corporate IT departments, is called BlackBerry Mobile Fusion, and it will allow tech support staff to manage multiple mobile devices through the same interface.
It’s an acknowledgement by the Canadian device maker that its once ubiquitous phones have been supplanted by the more popular and consumer-friendly smartphones made by Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) or running Google’s (GOOG, Fortune 500) software.
“Ford popularized the car, but now we have lots of manufacturers making lots of good automobiles,” said David Heit, RIM’s director of enterprise product management. “As long as we have individual choice, we’ll make individual choices, and iOS and Android devices are the most popular now.”
That’s an understatement. BlackBerry devices’ popularity has taken a stunning dive off a cliff over the past two years. In late 2009, BlackBerry controlled 20% of the global smartphone market according to IDC and 43% of the U.S. market, according to comScore. Now, BlackBerry maintains just 10% of the global market and 19% of the U.S.
During the same time, Android device leaders Samsung and HTC combined for nearly 40% of the global market. Apple controls 15%.

Making matters worse for RIM, its PlayBook tablet has not been well received, and its next-generation devices have faced severe delays in getting to market.
Rather than throw in the towel, RIM turned to what many analysts consider the company’s crown jewels: its security software for the corporate world. Though Android and Apple devices have grown more popular in businesses, analysts agree that BlackBerry phones are the most secure.
“I think this is part of a newfound pragmatism around how to approach this market,” said Al Hilwa, analyst at IDC. “Doubling down on the enterprise is close to RIM’s knitting and will help it maintain a strong niche from which it can roll out a longer-term transition.”
Currently, RIM offers the BlackBerry Enterprise server tool for IT departments to manage the BlackBerry phones on their network. But tech support staff have to use a different tool for iPhones or Android devices.
Mobile Fusion, which is currently being tested with a handful of clients and is expected to be released to the public in March, will allow IT departments to perform all those tasks for all company-owned and employee-owned devices from one Web-based console.
RIM’s Heit adamantly insisted that Mobile Fusion was not indicative of the company shifting its strategy away from hardware — or from its core BlackBerry devices.
“From a hardware prospective, what we’re doing is still extremely relevant,” he said. “We have a wide global footprint. The question becomes what’s most important to you in a smartphone: Internet browsing, work or games. That is becoming the key thing in choosing a smartphone.”

“ROMÂNUL MATRIX”, care se bate să câştige FINALA variantei britanice a emisiunii, copleşit de “cât de mare” a ajuns peste noapte în România
Razy Gogonea, românul care a impresionat juriul emisiunii “Britain’s got talent” cu un număr inspirat din Matrix, a declarat că este “disperat” să câştige finala pentru a-i cumpăra prietenei lui un inel de logodnă, scrie The Sun.
Razy (28 de ani), care este şomer, a fost aplaudat în picioare pentru prestaţia sa de sâmbătă seară şi a emoţionat publicul când a izbucnit în lacrimi, după ce juriul l-a anunţat că s-a calificat pentru următoarea etapă.
“Românul Matrix” a povestit cum succesul l-a dus cu un pas mai aproape de premiul de 100.000 de lire (113.700 de euro) şi de visul său de a-i cumpăra un inel prietenei sale, Ruth Lee (27 de ani). Ei s-au logodit acum şase luni, dar trăiesc în casa părinţilor fetei, din Manchester, pentru că sunt “lefteri”. De altfel, din cauza situaţiei materiale dificile, Razy a fost supranumit “Brokedancer” (dansatorul falit).
În ciuda eforturilor, Razy încă nu a reuşit să pună destui bani deoparte, pentru a-şi permite un inel pentru prietena lui. “E neplăcut că nu îmi permit inelul”, a spus românul Matrix. “Dacă voi câştiga Britain’s Got Talent, primul lucru pe care îl voi face va fi să cumpăr unul. Deja am pus ochii pe vreo două. Ruth merită ce e mai bun şi voi da totul pentru ea. Sperăm să ne căsătorim anul acesta”, a mai precizat românul.
Ruth, prietena lui Razy
La rândul ei, Ruth spune: “Razy a spus mereu că primul lucru pe care îl va face când va câştiga nişte bani va fi să-mi ia un inel. Am văzut câteva care îmi plac, dar sunt prea scumpe. Ne gândim la nuntă, dar totul depinde de bani”.
Razy a părăsit România, unde lucra ca animator, la vârsta de 18 ani, pentru a-şi realiza visul de a deveni dansator. În 2002, s-a mutat în Cipru, unde şi-a găsit un job de dansator şi şi-a perfecţionat mişcările de contorsionist. Peste şase ani, a cunoscut-o pe Ruth, care lucra în Cipru drept cântăreaţă. În scurt timp, s-au mutat împreună în Marea Britanie.
“Românul Matrix” s-a înscris la Britain’s Got Talent sperând să-şi facă un nume şi recunoaşte că a fost “copleşit” de reacţiile la numărul său. Razy, care are o viză care îi permite să muncească legal în Marea Britanie, spune: “E fantastic. Mă simt compleşit şi nu anticipam cât de importantă va fi audiţia”.
Prietena lui adaugă: “Ştiam că e fantastic, datorită fantasticei conexiuni emoţionale dintre noi. El este foarte sentimental. Lucrează de 16 ani pentru asta (n.r. cariera lui de dansator) şi înseamnă enorm pentru el. Dacă ar câştiga showul, ar fi un vis devenit realitate pentru el. O merită din plin”.
Succesul “românului Matrix” a ajuns rapid şi în presa din România. “Razy e uimit de cât de mare a ajuns în România. E peste tot la ştiri”, spune Ruth. Conform caselor de pariuri din Marea Britanie, Razy este favorit să câştige finala Britain’s Got Talent, cu o cotă de 10:1. El este urmat de cântăreţul Ed Reid (cota 11:1) şi de imitatorul Les Gibson (cota 12:1).

Casemod Builds a PC Into a Desk, Looks Awesome
Laptops can be better than desktops for various reasons–one of them is the lack of cables. How is it that, even if you carefully make sure no wires overlap, you always end up with a tangle of cables with a desktop? Dutch electrician “L3p” also found the messiness of his setup annoying, so created the L3p D3sk, a casemod which hides away cables and uneeded computer parts into a sleek, thin desk, attached to the wall.

The aluminimum and glass desk has no legs, and means the only parts of the PC visible are the important bits: Monitors, the keyboard and mouse, and the power switch (a special power button was added into the desk).
The glass worktop lifts up–exposing all the computer parts–for those times you need to upgrade your machine. To make the mod even cooler, L3p added a fluorescent liquid effect to glide around the hardware, making a cool light display at night.
The computer itself is made up from L3p’s previous home-built PC, taken apart and reasembled with a few added parts like an Aquacomputer (water cooling system) and the necessary pumps. The mod took around five months for L3p to complete, with the help of his various sponsors.

TAXA DE PRIMĂ ÎNMATRICULARE A FOST DECLARATĂ ILEGALĂ de o INSTANŢĂ internaţională. Boc i-a cerut ministrului Mediului “soluţii argumentate”
Premierul Emil Boc a declarat, joi seara, că a solicitat ministrului Mediului un punct de vedere asupra taxei de primă înmatriculare, după ce Curtea de Justiţie a Comunităţilor Europene a anunţat că aceasta încalcă legislaţia UE, şi că aşteaptă să îi fie prezentate “soluţii argumentate” în acest caz
“Vor fi prezentate soluţii argumentate, trebuie analizat impactul”, a spus Boc.
Taxa de primă înmatriculare încalcă legislaţia Uniunii Europene întrucât produce un dezavantaj la vânzarea maşinilor second-hand din alte state pe teritoriul României, arată Curtea de Justiţie a Comunităţilor Europene, într-un punct de vedere exprimat la cererea unei instanţe româneşti.
Punctul de vedere al CEJ a fost emis la cererea Tribunalului Sibiu, care judecă un proces în care un român a dat în judecată statul întrucât a considerat că taxa de primă înmatriculare este ilegală. Magistraţii sibieni au vrut să afle de la CEJ dacă taxa contravine sau nu legislaţiei europene.
CEJ precizează, în comunicatul citat, că procesul judecat de Tribunalul Sibiu a fost intentat de un român pe nume Tatu, care şi-a cumpărat, în iulie 2008, o maşină second-hand din Germania, cu preţul de 6.600 de lei. Vehiculul avea o capacitate cilindrică de 2.155 de centimetri cubi şi standard de poluare Euro 2, fiind fabricat în 1997, an în care a şi fost înscris în Germania.
Pentru a-şi putea înmatricula maşina în România, bărbatul a trebuit să plătească o taxă de poluare de 7.595 de lei. Întrucât a considerat că taxa este contrară normelor europene, bărbatul a căutat să-şi recupereze banii. El şi-a susţinut acţiunea în instanţă pe aceea că taxa este aplicată numai vehiculelor second-hand importate din alte state, nu şi celorlalte maşini second-hand deja înregistrate în România şi revândute.
